Suzy, Eddie Izzard, and Ed Speelers join the cast as Joe Stephenson concludes filming the Beatles manager film, 'Midas Man'.
Suzy Eddie Izzard ("Stay Close") and Ed Speelers ("Outlander") have joined the cast of "Midas Man," the film based on the life of The Beatles manager Brian Epstein, which has recently concluded filming after experiencing delays.
Initially, the film was helmed by Jonas Akerlund ("Lords of Chaos") as director, but he departed from the project under undisclosed circumstances. Sara Sugarman ("Vinyl") was then attached to the film for a year before Joe Stephenson ("Doctor Jekyll") took over as the director. Stephenson has now wrapped up the shoot, with approximately 95% of the film completed, according to sources.
Written by Brigit Grant, the film explores the journey of Epstein, who managed The Beatles from 1962 until his untimely death at the age of 32 in 1967. Epstein's influence extended beyond the Fab Four and encompassed other British Invasion acts such as Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer, and the Dakotas.
Jacob Fortune-Lloyd ("The Queen's Gambit") portrays Epstein in the film. The ensemble cast also includes Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, and Jay Leno as Ed Sullivan. Due to the delays, minor adjustments were made to the casting to accommodate scheduling conflicts. Izzard takes on the role of Allan Williams, famously known as "The Man Who Gave Away The Beatles," while Speleers portrays Tex Ellington, Epstein's love interest. Darci Shaw plays the role of Cilla Black, and Milo Parker portrays Epstein's loyal assistant, Alastair Taylor.
Introducing a group of newcomers, the film features Jonah Lees as John Lennon, musician Blake Richardson as Paul McCartney, Leo Harvey Elledge as George Harrison, Campbell Wallace as Ringo Starr, and Adam Lawrence as Pete Best.
The film is produced by StudioPOW and Trevor Beattie Films, and the sales agent Mister Smith Entertainment has secured several distribution deals. It is set to be released in the U.K. and Ireland through Signature Entertainment.
Reflecting on the project, Stephenson expressed his excitement about directing "Midas Man," emphasizing his gratitude towards the exceptional cast and crew. He believes that Brian Epstein's story has long awaited its portrayal on the big screen, and he considers it an honor to finally bring it to life.
Producer Perry Trevers acknowledged the delays and the subsequent changes in key team members but expressed satisfaction in securing Joe Stephenson as the director. Trevers praised Stephenson's talent and vision, stating that they are thrilled with the captured footage and eagerly anticipate sharing the film with audiences worldwide.
Producer Trevor Beattie emphasized the labor of love involved in bringing Brian Epstein's story to the screen and expressed pride in Jacob Fortune-Lloyd's portrayal of Epstein. Beattie believes Epstein would be proud and amazed by the actor's astonishing performance.
